  • HAPPPPPPYYYYYY NEWS!

today i got some wonderful news, but first i'm sure you all want to hear about how the horse show and my excuse for not having any pictures. right? i thought so!

The horse show was not meant to go and do good it was just to go and see what we needed to work on. it was very crowded and the smallest class was probably about 20. we actually had a lot of trouble actually getting there, because the ball to our new truck was to low for our trailer so we had to rush and get a new one. but we made it time for riding classes. Trainer "p" rode Tony in all the english classes to school him he looked beautiful, didn't fuss, argue, or do anything bad. We schooled in most of the western classes but 14-18 went into place. I rode in him a snaffle and draw reins, so that effected us a little, we got cut off a lot, but that wasn't really an issue i was just so happy he was  HAPPY. he didn't pin his ears back when a horse got to close nor did he act up when i asked things of him. we placed 5th out of about 25 in the w/t class and thrid in out of about 30 in the loping class ( i'm still trying wrap my head around how he placed higher in a loping class then he did in a w/t class it's normally the other way around) it was a cold day, and i was just to excited to be back showing to remember to ask for pictures. but i will try to get a before and after video so everyone can see the differnece.

NOW!! dun dun dun!! for the good news!!
I made a phone call to a friend who works out at thhe barn i keep tony, to see if i could get a ride tomorrow, because my parents work secdual makes it very hard for me to get out everyday. She said yes and went right into telling me how beautiful my horse looked. apparently he was so underneth himself, and loping properly like a real western pleasure horse should! AND for the best news yet, he did about 10 flying lead changes just  *bam* *bam* *bam* one right after the other. he's never done flying lead changes before. except for when i asked him to do a simple change and we both got confused, i got a flying lead change out of him. I don't think that counts. so he finely knows how. i was actually told Tony would not be capable of doing flying lead changes that he didn't have the movment to do it. but apparently he does. i will deffiantly have a video of this ( probably not of me because I'm not very good at getting horses to do them)  up as soon as the next ride happens. I'm so so so so  so ! proud of my stinky man! ahhh! i was dancing around the house lol.

I did however get some snapshots of him after a ride the other day so here they are [:

  • life & training update

    Hey everyone,

is everyone excited for '09 show season? i sure know I am! Plans changed for the AQHA show this month, because of bad weather ( i.e fog, snow, rain, ice). We decided to do a schooling show that's put on my the pinto association here in southern Oregon. From there we'll decide if the price of circuit show is worth it yet. I really think it's going to be he's doing marvouless! We're still working with trainer p, i haven't had a paid for lesson with her yet, but she's now been riding him for a month in a half. She's a wonderful rider, a very nice lady, and she generally likes my horse, which it's sad to say but is very very rare! I don't know what i'm going to do about trainer A, i haven't heard from her or tried to contact her. But my parents have decicded with the economy the way it is i can only have one trainer. I agree  with them, because all of you who ride horses know --- no one is rich in this world unless your a millionare. I don't know what my decision is going to be, and i can only go by other peoples opinions i guess what will make my mind up is if AQHA shows clash with APHA shows -- and trainer p can't come with me. ok enough of the whole life buisness lets get down to the training part shall we?

December and the first week in Janurary we rode tony in a snaffle bit and nothing else. this really helped us shove him forward and make him just go! Even if he looked like a tard with his head way up in the air. We kicked kicked kicked to get him to respect our leg. everytime he would buck we'd smack him with the rein. that way he was getting punished from somewhere else other then our leg. He did NOT kick out at the rein. But he's a smart stinker and soon found out he was capable of kicking at the rein and did so -- or thought for us. if we tighted the rein he thought we were going tp smack his big fat hiney ( at first we had to smack his hiney quit often he after all is a massive jerk) . When he started thinking for us we swung the reins at his side and walk, trotted, loped him ( both sides - both ways). I then caught the flu so it was up to trainer p.

When i came back everyone had so much to tell me aboyt his training it was almost all at once. but EVERYTHING i heard was good. Trainer p had switched him up three levels in a matter of one week. he was now done with the go go go and respecting the leg, he'd past that with flying colors. now we were making him drive. We're currently using draw reins and a twisted wire snaffle ( please save your razor blade in the mouth bit for someone who doesn't know how to ride, this bit is harmless, it's just like putting a ported bit in his mouth) . His lope his so amazing, i never realized he could lope like this. Imagine watching AQHA youth world -- look for the horse you think is going to win the class thats him. I'm not tooting his horn - but someone saw trainer p riding him and offered 15k . i didn't even pay half that for him! He of course is not for sale. After the third day of riding him like this trainer p was soo estatic she asked one of he 11 year old clients to hop on him to see if she could get him to do what trainer p could. he was a sweet heart didn't give her shit, did what she asked, and the little girl loved the way he felt ( she rides a big paint who's amazing so i took this a complament). I just returned from riding him and i can't tell you how happy i am. I have never been this happy with this horse EVER! Nor have i had two months of amazing rides; most of the time i leave the barn so upset. but it's like a 180. he also has not been sore, stiff, hot, or lame. no hock troubles or anything. so his pain issue was a big fat put on. i'll post any pictures taken at the show here.

hopfully in the begining of feb i can get a before video and an after video.

if you'd live in southern oregon area and do not know about the pinto show. or live in oregon at all, and would like to go send me an e-mail @ movinlowandslow@yahoo.com subject title "horse show" . And i'll send you a printable flyer.

  • it's been a while.

It's been a while sense i've posted anything. But I hope everyone had a darling Christmas. Mine was pretty good, it actually snowed for the first time in years ( on Christmas day anyways). I didn't get anything horsey which was a bit of a bummer. But I did get the non horsey things I asked for.

Tony is stilling being trained by trainer P. She finished her first months training check last week. And we'll be paying her on the first for another month. She's now riding him in spurs & a snaffle. She said he's picking up quickly and she's seen a massive change in him sense her first ride with him. I'd have to agree with her; his attitude is minimized massivly.  The other day ( sunday) I rode him while she was out there. And I really kicked his butt into high gear. She said his eyes where like baseballs. Which this may sound mean but it made me happy! I've never gotten away with telling HIM where to stick it. It's always him telling me off.
She wants me to wait before I ride with spurs, because he still is being a jerk to my leg. But all in all a month ago. I'da been on my tush if I'd handed his kahoonies to him like i did =p

The weather has been really bad here ( snow, rain rain rain rain, snow) so I haven't gotten much riding in. But when I have ridden the ride has been wonderful. It thrills me to think maybe this show season I'll be able to make all the shows!

    Heres to hoping.

  • Showmanship clinic 12/6/08

I adore showmanship, but I strongly dislike practicing it. I'd much rather spend my time riding or keep my horse clean. He's not to found of showmanship; but he's very good at it. I don't know if that makes sense though. Anyways!

I board at a training barn, so they have clinics and trainers constantly rolling through. Sunday, they had a showmanship clinic; which I get for free for boarding out there. So it started out kinda slow; because the trainer had us walk around, jog around, stop, set up, find the correct 'show potion' ect. I learned a new way to teach my horse to back up. But most of what the trainer said I already knew ( I'm not being a "know it all" she just said the same things my trainer does). She told me what I already knew I was doing wrong. But over all he did really good. He was the only one who did a haunch turn, set up by himself, and backed correctly. I thought I'd share some tips she gave us. No pictures again; as my parents don't go the barn very often and so there's no one take pictures.

Setting up: If you just set the back left leg, and the right front leg. Meaning leave the other two ALONE, at all times. Your horse will start to set himself. Do this when your in the cross ties, tieing up. Or just stopping. It will really get it sunk into their heads.

Stopping: Make your horse stop with your body suggestion. Start off by saying " Woah" when you stop. If the horse stops to far ahead of you; to where your at the middle of his neck. Back him, pull him forward, and try again. Do so until the stop with their ear at your shoulder. Then start going by body suggestion.

Standing: If you have a hard time seeing the judge your probably in the wrong spot. If the judge is infront of your horse's shoulder your on the side you started on, if the judge is behind the horses shoulder your on the other side.

Line up: Try to get even with the first horse in line. Give yourself enough space, and if theres a horse acting up. Don't be afraid to move, or ask the person to.

Back up: If your horse backs up like a drunker ( one way with his butt, then the other way) pull his nose the direction you want his butt to go.  At home you can back them along side the rail, then slowly work away from the rail. Suggesting two/three inches at a time. Don't take big steps into your horse or scuff your feet, take quick baby steps into your horse; suggesting with your body the back off.

Rememer showmanship isn't about who's horse can listen to word compands. It's about body suggestion and if your horse can listen. Your showing your horse off to his best ability and your own. Look clean, sharp, and confedent.

    And have fun [:

  • Update: 12/3/08

So today was the third day i rode tony sense the "mini lesson" with trainer " P ". So far so good! He's really getting underneath himself and going forward. He hasn't had an attitude about it at all. Tonight was the best night of them all. When he was loping I could really feel him just there, his but was sooo far underneath him that the lady I ride with was so amazed she got of her horse sat down and watched while shouting " He looks amazing" - " oh my goodness beautiful". And she's seen him during his darkest of days so she knows how hard we've worked to get the praise like that. I'm feeling super confident that he's going to get it. He was a little tickey but he respected me! And i believe thats what counts right now. So what  he's pissed he has to do and gets a wacking of a life time  if he doesn't. When he does it he'll get left alone.

Right now I'm working towards getting ready for a schooling show in Albany. As i have opted for January being the "schooling show" month. I don't think it'll harm going for the all around for the OQHA shows.

If I find a way to the barn tomorrow I'll try to take pictures. As my only way out there has a meeting and can't come get me.

All I know is I had to tell everyone, inculding the world. I'm so happy with him it's not even funny he's never given me THREE good days in a row. And I've never been this confident on him EVER!!!

He's just .... driving, and going forward, and not being ass. I just .. the only way to explain it is two rides from a trainer and he already gets it. He's going to be doing some major ass kicking at big shows soon. :D
